Country and Sectoral Background

Indonesia has targeted a 23% renewable energy generation mix by 2025. The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has been implementing multiple policies to support the development of low-cost, reliable and sustainable energy generation.

Currently, the South Sumatran grid is dominated by fossil-fuel powered plants. The presence of the Endikat Hydroelectric Power Project will be able to supply clean and low-cost electricity to the west coast of the island. The Southern Sumatra electricity network is dominated by coal and gas fired power plant, totaling 82% of the generation with 51% of the generation coming from coal and 31% from gas.

InfraCo Asia, through Infunde Development, will play a vital role in the development of the project.

The Project

The Endikat Hydroelectric Power Project is a run-of-river peaking power plant that comprises two powerhouses with a total capacity of 65.6 MW and an annual output of 270 GWh. Developed by PT Energi Banyu Kencana in accordance with international performance standards, the Project aims to provide the South Sumatran grid with a reliable and renewable source of energy that will meet peak energy demand at a lower cost and reduce its dependence on fossil-fuel sources.

The Project is expected to generate substantial long-term cost savings for the off-taker (PLN) and will demonstrate the commercial viability of infrastructure that supports Indonesia’s transition towards cost-effective, reliable, and socially responsible energy sources.
